  • India and the UK confirmed the CETA and Double Contribution Convention take effect on 15 July 2026.
  • India also became the world's leading ship-recycling nation with a 35.4 per cent global share.
  • The ICRIER-Prosus SIDE 2026 report ranked India the fifth most digitalised economy and fourth on AI capability, and Amit Shah launched Bharat Taxi, India's first cooperative driver-owned taxi service.

Welfare and Governance

  • PM Modi marked six years of PM SVANidhi (1.12 crore loans worth Rs 17,800 crore), disbursed Rs 2,400 crore under PM-VBRY and released the 23rd PM-KISAN installment of Rs 18,880 crore to 9.44 crore farmers.
  • West Bengal became the 36th state to join Ayushman Bharat PMJAY, covering 1.36 crore families.
  • The Cabinet approved a Rs 9,585 crore Delhi-NCR Clean Mobility Scheme.
  • Amit Shah launched VINIMAY, India's Land Port Management System integrating 15 land ports, while NCERT rolled out its biggest Class 9 curriculum overhaul in two decades, later adding a section on the 1975 Emergency.

  • India summoned the US Charge d'Affaires over the strike on tanker Settebello off Oman.
  • Under India's BRICS Chairship, the Indore Declaration on agriculture was adopted.

Environment and Science

  • India crossed 100 Ramsar sites with Surha Tal in Ballia as the 100th, and Modi launched Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 on World Environment Day.
  • CSE's State of India's Environment 2026 warned seven of nine planetary boundaries had been breached.

  • The state announced 11 lakh more Lakhpati Didis, launched 47 electric buses and Farmer Registry-based fertiliser distribution, and marked 18 years of tiger reintroduction at Sariska, now home to 56 tigers.

MAINS HOOKS FOR RAS-STYLE ANSWER WRITING

  • On the economy, June 2026 illustrates the trade-off between growth and price stability: the MPC's simultaneous downgrade of growth (6.6 per cent) and upgrade of inflation (5.1 per cent) amid an external energy shock shows how imported oil prices and a weak rupee constrain monetary space, a useful case for questions on monetary-fiscal coordination and external vulnerability.
  • FTAs (Oman CEPA, UK CETA, India-EU push) can anchor answers on trade-led growth, GCC and Indo-Pacific strategy, and the USD 1 trillion export goal.
  • Welfare-delivery items (SVANidhi, PM-KISAN, PM-VBRY, Lakhpati Didi) support arguments on DBT, financial inclusion and the formalisation of informal credit.
  • On federalism, the NITI Aayog Governing Council and Viksit Bharat@2047 theme give material for cooperative-versus-competitive federalism and Centre-State coordination.
  • Environmental governance offers rich contrast: crossing 100 Ramsar sites set against forest diversion (Hasdeo-Arand), breached planetary boundaries and the contested Western Ghats ESA notification exemplify the development-versus-conservation dilemma and the precautionary principle.
  • Defence self-reliance (BrahMos exports, LRLACM, Netra, record production) supports Atmanirbhar Bharat and defence-diplomacy answers, while the Kalpakkam nuclear-hydrogen plant links energy transition to strategic technology.
  • For Rajasthan papers, the anti-corruption drive, AI policy, UCC committee, water grids (Banswara UHLC, Yamuna project) and Sariska tiger recovery provide state-level governance, ethics and conservation case studies aligned with the Viksit Rajasthan-2047 vision.
