The Central Government has constituted a Search-cum-Selection Committee for the National Sports Board under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, read with the National Sports Board (Search-cum-Selection Committee) Rules, 2026. The Committee was set up by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The five-member Committee will be chaired by Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan. Its members include Sports Secretary Shri Hari Ranjan Rao, sports administrator Lieutenant General (Retd) Harpal Singh representing the Indian Olympic Association, and two National Sports Award winners, Shri Gagan Narang and Ms. N. Kunjarani Devi.

The Committee has been tasked with recommending a list of names for the posts of Chairperson and two Members of the Board. The persons recommended must be competent, honest and reputed, and must possess knowledge or practical experience in public administration, sports governance, sports law and other related fields.

The constitution of the Committee is expected to expedite the process of selecting the Chairperson and Members of the National Sports Board. The Board will function as the central authority responsible for granting recognition to National Sports Organisations and for ensuring their compliance with governance, financial and ethical standards. The move marks an important step in implementing the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, which aims to bring greater accountability and transparency to the administration of sports in the country.
