Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya commenced a three day visit to Shillong, Meghalaya on 29 May 2026 to undertake a comprehensive review of the preparations for the 39th National Games 2026 which Meghalaya will host along with other North Eastern States. During the visit, the Union Minister will chair a high level review meeting with senior officials of the Government of Meghalaya, the Indian Olympic Association, the Sports Authority of India and representatives of the North Eastern States to assess infrastructure readiness, athlete accommodation, anti doping protocols, broadcasting and logistics. On 30 May 2026, Dr Mandaviya along with Chief Minister of Meghalaya Shri Conrad K Sangma will jointly inaugurate the Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex at Shillong, developed at a project cost of Rupees 132.9 Crore. The state of the art facility is designed to host disciplines such as basketball, badminton and volleyball as well as other indoor sporting events of international standards, and will serve as a major training venue ahead of the National Games. The Union Minister will also inspect the Umsawli Sports Complex including its aquatics and tennis facilities to review ongoing sports infrastructure development under the Khelo India scheme and Centrally Sponsored Sports Schemes. He will additionally attend the Chintan Shivir of the Department of Youth Affairs with North Eastern stakeholders to deliberate on the next phase of Mera Yuva Bharat, the National Youth Policy roadmap, the Vision 2047 youth empowerment framework and Indias preparation for hosting the 2030 Youth Olympics.
