Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, of the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, co-chaired the 14th session of the India-Uzbekistan Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. He co-chaired the meeting with Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Shokhrukh Gulyamov. The meeting was held in Tashkent, with the Indian co-chair participating through video conferencing. The Commission reviewed all aspects of bilateral economic cooperation and reaffirmed the strategic nature of India-Uzbekistan relations, rooted in historical and civilisational ties and strengthened under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Both sides agreed to further strengthen trade, remove non-tariff barriers, and work towards doubling bilateral trade over the next three years. The Commerce Secretary noted that India's total goods and services exports in FY 2025-26 are estimated at USD 860.09 billion, while cumulative exports during April-May 2026-27 stood at USD 162.69 billion, a rise of 14.66 percent over the same period last year, with merchandise exports growing 16.09 percent. Uzbekistan reported that its trade turnover with India reached USD 1.3 billion in 2025, up 33.3 percent. The Commission discussed expanding Indian supplies in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, engineering goods, electronics and digital cooperation, and identified energy and critical minerals as important areas. It was decided that the 15th IGC meeting would be held in India.
