Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day 5 June 2026 launched the second phase of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park also referred to as Mahavir Jayanti Park in New Delhi. The campaign which encourages every citizen to plant a tree in honour of their mother targets 10 crore tree plantations across India between 5 June and 30 September 2026. The initiative is also linked to the Aravalli Green Wall project for reforesting the Aravalli range across Rajasthan Haryana Gujarat and Delhi. The original Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par was launched in 2024 with a Peepal plantation at Buddha Jayanti Park and this year the location was shifted to honour motherhood and the motherland through the Mahavir Vanasthali venue. Modi also flagged off 200 new electric buses manufactured by PMI Electro Mobility from the Delhi Secretariat the 9 metre DEVI buses will run on 30 green routes powered by six battery packs with total capacity of 196 kilowatts offering over 200 kilometre range per charge and equipped with CCTV cameras panic buttons GPS tracking voice announcements and ramps for the differently abled. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa attended the events. The Union Environment Minister and Delhi CM separately inaugurated 18 Namo Oxygen Parks across the capital with a target of 15 lakh tree plantations under the campaign.
