The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in collaboration with the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-Hyderabad), honoured the winners of the Face and Iris Biometric SDK Benchmarking challenges on Monday. Building on the success of the earlier Fingerprint Challenge, UIDAI conducted the Face and Iris Age Variance challenges between December 2025 and February 2026, which together attracted 531 registrations. After extensive testing and a series of performance evaluations, Innovatrics of Slovakia secured the first position in the Face Challenge, followed by IDBIO of the United States and Neurotechnology of Lithuania. In the Iris Challenge, IDBIO took the first position, followed by Neurotechnology and Innovatrics. Besides the winners, several Indian companies and academic institutions participated, including Perfios, Ooru and IIIT-Hyderabad. The initiative is part of UIDAI's continuous efforts to develop indigenous biometric SDK solutions and advance biometric research. The challenges aimed to identify high-performance 1:1 face and iris matching solutions from leading technology providers and research institutions in India and other countries. Evaluations were carried out using large, anonymised datasets within a controlled execution environment. A unique feature of these challenges was the use of a unique longitudinal biometric dataset of children aged 5 to 10 years, with a five-year gap between each sample, to measure how well verification systems perform with increasing age. UIDAI described it as a globally unique challenge using such datasets to solve a real-world problem related to the biometric identification of children across different age groups. UIDAI honoured the top performers and encouraged all participants for their efforts.
