The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier telecom research and development centre under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Hyderabad to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in advanced communication technology. The CoE aims to promote indigenous research, innovation and capacity building in advanced communication areas, with special focus on wireless communication, quantum technology, cyber security and AI-based applications. It is the fourth such CoE established by C-DOT, after earlier centres at IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Roorkee, strengthening the national innovation ecosystem. The centre will serve as a dedicated, high-impact R&D hub, leveraging IIT Hyderabad's academic excellence and C-DOT's expertise in indigenous telecom solutions to strengthen academia-industry coordination. It will undertake joint research and prototype development in emerging areas such as 5G Advanced/6G technologies, very large-scale MIMO systems, integrated sensing and communication systems, AI-enabled communication networks and devices, and quantum and post-quantum communication. The MoU was signed by IIT Hyderabad Director Professor B.S. Murthy and C-DOT CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, followed by the inauguration of the CoE. C-DOT has already partnered with the startup WiSig, based at IIT Hyderabad, for development and deployment of 5G O-RAN solutions. The initiative will support startups, facilitate intellectual property creation, and promote knowledge exchange through workshops and training programmes, advancing India's goal of technological self-reliance and its position in the global telecom landscape.
