Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda released the operational guidelines for the 'Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan' during the 16th meeting of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW), held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The step reflects eight years of sustained progress of the programme. With the release of these guidelines, 'Anemia Mukt Bharat' has been renamed 'Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan', reflecting a broader approach that goes beyond supplementation to include testing, treatment, right diet and community participation through 'Jan Chetna'. The revised framework marks a shift from preventive care to treatment-based care, with greater emphasis on testing, treatment, monitoring and case-based management. The guidelines transform the existing 6x6x6 strategy into a 7x7x7 framework, adding a seventh beneficiary group, a seventh intervention and a seventh institutional mechanism. The seventh beneficiary group comprises low-birth-weight (LBW) children aged 0-6 months, to break the intergenerational cycle of anemia early. The seventh intervention is the 'right diet' approach promoting iron-rich and diverse foods, while a strong monitoring and evaluation framework for digital tracking is the seventh institutional mechanism. The Abhiyaan moves from the T3 approach (Test, Treat, Talk) to the T4 approach (Test, Treat, Talk, Track). Intravenous iron therapy (FCM and iron sucrose) has been included as clinical treatment for severe anemia in pregnant and lactating mothers and refractory cases. A unified 'Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Portal' has been created for digital tracking, analysis and planning of anemia-related services.
