The Ministry of Rural Development brought the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar Evam Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G] Act, 2025 into force across the country on 1 July 2026, which Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called a historic and unprecedented day for rural India. With the Act in effect, eligible rural households now have a statutory right to 125 days of employment, up from the earlier 100 days. The law aims to make rural employment more effective, transparent and outcome-oriented while promoting durable asset creation, conservation of natural resources, higher agricultural productivity, livelihood enhancement and women's empowerment. Alongside its commencement, the central government has notified revised wage rates for all states, Union Territories and notified wage zones. The daily wage will now not be less than 300 rupees in any state, UT or notified wage zone. The national average notified wage has risen from 298.8 rupees per day to 327.4 rupees per day, an average increase of more than 10 percent. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh have seen wage increases of 15 to 25 percent. For smooth implementation, the Centre has already released an interim amount of 95,692.31 crore rupees to states and UTs so that employment, wage payment and development works face no disruption. The national launch will be held on 2 July 2026 at Mukkavaripalli village (Obulavaripalle Mandal), Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, attended by Chouhan, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. It will feature distribution of Rural Employment Guarantee Cards, launch of the VB-G RAM G software and release of publications.
