On 2 July 2026, NITI Aayog released a report titled 'Strategic Roadmap for Making Ayurveda Global', presenting a comprehensive assessment of the current status of Ayurveda worldwide and outlining a phased roadmap to establish it globally. The report was released by NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri, in the presence of NITI Aayog Member Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas and Ministry of AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha. Senior officials from NITI Aayog, the Ministry of AYUSH, the Ministry of External Affairs, and various government, research and industry organisations also attended.
Dr. Lahiri said the globalisation of Ayurveda offers India a significant opportunity to provide global leadership in traditional medicine, bringing economic benefits, job creation, higher exports and a boost to India's knowledge-based soft power, and called for a whole-of-government approach. Prof. Srinivas stressed that globalisation is not merely about expanding markets or exports but about improving health outcomes worldwide and offering an evidence-based additional treatment option, reflecting the spirit of 'Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah'. AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha highlighted the ministry's key steps and achievements over the past decade.
The study was carried out by NITI Aayog's Health Vertical in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), using extensive stakeholder consultations, comparative analysis of international standards and evidence-based analysis. It proposes a three-pillar framework - Availability, Acceptability and Awareness - and a phased strategy up to 2047, aligned with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision. The report also reflects India's commitment to 'One Earth, One Health'.
