On 5 June 2026 Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma marked World Environment Day by participating in the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam plantation drive at the World Forestry Arboretum in Jaipur planting a banyan sapling and inaugurating environmental initiatives. The event also marked the conclusion of the state wide Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan 2026 a fortnight long water conservation campaign that had begun on 25 May 2026 at Bisalpur Dam in Tonk on the occasion of Ganga Dashami. The campaign mobilised Panchayats voluntary organisations religious groups industrialists youth women and citizens for cleaning of wells stepwells ponds traditional water sources Shramdaan plantation drives Jal Chaupal community forums Prabhat Pheri awareness rallies and water worship. The Chief Minister urged citizens to make water conservation and afforestation a mass movement noting that with desertification advancing in western Rajasthan and groundwater levels declining sharply the responsibility belongs to every citizen. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel Minister of State Sanjay Sharma Member of Parliament Manju Sharma and senior officials attended the programme. The Rajasthan Budget 2026 27 has set a target of planting and protecting 100 million saplings under the campaign aimed at transforming Rajasthan into a greener state through preferential planting of indigenous species building of walking tracks and eco tourism amenities and rejuvenation of traditional water bodies linking environment with livelihoods.
