Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is set to participate in an important high-level meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday concerning the Yamuna Water Project. Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will also be present at the meeting. The principal agenda is to finalise the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) being prepared for the project. During the meeting, various technical and administrative aspects related to the project will be discussed in detail, and an effort will be made to build consensus on the draft of the MoA. The Centre, Rajasthan and Haryana governments have been coordinating continuously to bring this ambitious project to the ground at the earliest. The Yamuna Water Project is considered extremely significant for the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. Once implemented, it will provide drinking water to lakhs of people in the region and also ensure adequate water for irrigation to farmers, which is expected to strengthen agricultural production and the rural economy. Notably, under the Yamuna water agreement, a joint Detailed Project Report (DPR) for laying the pipeline has already been prepared and sent to the Central Water Commission. After the MoA is finalised, the pace of implementation of the project is likely to accelerate. Senior officials of the Central government, the Rajasthan Water Resources Department and the Haryana government will also take part in the meeting, which is being regarded as a significant step towards advancing the project.
