Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Bhajanlal Sharma flagged off the Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan 2026 from the Bisalpur Dam in Tonk district on the occasion of Ganga Dashami on 25 May 2026. The Chief Minister performed Jal Pujan at the Bisalpur Dam amid Vedic chants and offered prayers for abundant rainfall across the state. Bisalpur Dam, built across the Banas River in Tonk district, is the principal source of drinking water for Jaipur, Ajmer and Tonk districts and a critical asset for eastern Rajasthan. After the launch ceremony Shri Bhajanlal Sharma conducted an aerial survey of the Isarda Dam, located on the Banas River in Sawai Madhopur, to review the progress of water conservation, water management and irrigation related works under the larger Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project rebranded as the Ramjal Setu Link Project. The feeder channel of the Ramjal Setu Link passes through the Isarda, Galwa and Bandh Baretha dams. The statewide Vande Ganga campaign will run from 25 May 2026 to 5 June 2026 which is World Environment Day and will cover all 50 districts. Activities include cleaning of wells, stepwells, ponds and other water bodies, Shramdaan or voluntary labour, Jal Chaupal community forums at the gram panchayat level, Prabhat Pheri morning awareness rallies, plantation drives and structured public awareness sessions. The Chief Minister directed officials to develop new infrastructure around the Bisalpur Dam and called for effective measures to recharge the Banas River, strengthen rainwater harvesting and replenish groundwater. The campaign builds on the first phase of Vande Ganga held in 2025 and is conceptualised as a peoples movement on water security in a state where average annual rainfall is just 575 millimetres and several districts face acute groundwater stress.
