The national-level hackathon "Statathon - A Data Journey for Viksit Bharat" concluded successfully, drawing young innovators from across the country who developed data-driven solutions to challenges related to official statistics. It was organised by the National Statistics Office (NSO), India, in collaboration with the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education. Twenty-five teams took part in the grand finale, working on five challenges spanning different areas of official statistics. Two prizes were awarded in each category. In the first category, Maharashtra-based start-up Aravat Technologies won the top prize, followed by Sri Sairam Engineering College, Tamil Nadu. In the second category, Bharat Institute of Engineering and Technology, Telangana, and Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Tamil Nadu, secured first and second prizes respectively. In the third category, the Institute of Technical Education and Research (Faculty of Engineering and Technology), Odisha, was the winner, with R.M.K. Engineering College, Tamil Nadu, as runner-up. In the fourth category, Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology, Delhi, and Chennai Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, were winner and runner-up respectively. In the fifth category, Jai Parkash Mukand Lal Innovative Engineering and Technology Institute, Haryana, won the first prize, while Kongu Engineering College, Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), and a start-up, Matrix Labs, were joint runners-up. Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), interacted with the winners on 19 June 2026 in the presence of Director Generals and other senior officials. Shri P.R. Meshram, Director General (Data Governance), congratulated the teams and encouraged participants to continue innovating and use their skills to solve real-world problems.
