The Indian womens football team clinched a record sixth SAFF Womens Championship title on 6 June 2026 by defeating defending champions Bangladesh 3 to 1 in a thrilling final at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao, Goa. Under head coach Crispin Chettri, the Blue Tigresses ended a seven year title drought, with India having last won the trophy in 2019. Pyari Xaxa opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a cool finish from inside the box, before Ritu Porna Chakma equalised for Bangladesh in first half stoppage time in the 45 plus 1 minute. Sanfida Nongrum restored Indias lead just after half time in the 46th minute, and Lynda Kom sealed the win in the 82nd minute by capitalising on a defensive lapse. India completed a flawless campaign, winning all four matches and scoring 18 goals while conceding just one across the tournament. Aveka Singh emerged as the Golden Boot winner with four goals, while Sanfida Nongrum was named Most Valuable Player and goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu Elangbam collected the Best Goalkeeper award. The 2026 SAFF Womens Championship, the thirteenth edition of the tournament organised by the South Asian Football Federation, featured seven teams and was hosted by India. The victory marks the All India Football Federations renewed focus on grassroots womens football and the success of the Mission XI Million programme.
