The agriculture ministerial and senior officials' meetings of the BRICS nations, held at Indore, concluded with the unanimous adoption of the 'Indore Declaration'. Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the outcomes in a press conference, accompanied by Ministers of State Ramnath Thakur and Bhagirath Choudhary. The meetings, hosted under India's BRICS chairship led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saw participation of nearly 100 delegates, including around 60 foreign representatives from member and partner countries.

The Minister noted that BRICS countries represent nearly half of the world's population, hold about 42 percent of global agricultural land and contribute roughly 42 percent of the world's foodgrain production. The farmer-centric declaration records a shared commitment to food security, nutrition, livelihoods, agricultural trade, innovation, investment, climate-resilient farming and sustainable agricultural development.

Four new institutional initiatives were agreed upon: the BRICS Network of Centres of Excellence on Agro-Ecology and Regenerative Agriculture (India's node being the Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram); the BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture (to be coordinated by IIT Delhi); the Global Forum on Farmers' Rights in Seed Systems; and BRICS AgriN (Agro Inputs, Genetic Resources and Information Network). The existing BRICS Agricultural Research Platform will be strengthened into a 'Knowledge to Action Hub' to take research from lab to land, while discussions on a BRICS Grain Exchange gained momentum. Special focus was placed on small and marginal farmers, women and youth.
