This week (22-28 June 2026) brought significant developments across the economy, governance, environment, science and technology, and Rajasthan.

Economy

  • India became the world's leading ship recycling nation in 2025 with a 35.4 percent global share per UNCTAD, achieving the Maritime India Vision 2030 target five years early.
  • The RBI's monthly bulletin warned that a below-normal south-west monsoon could weigh on growth and inflation, even as Q4 2025-26 GDP grew 7.8 percent; the MPC cut its growth projection to 6.6 percent and raised its inflation forecast to 5.1 percent.
  • NITI Aayog released the 8th Trade Watch Quarterly, reporting total trade of USD 1.84 trillion (up 5.4 percent) and spotlighting pharma exports of USD 35.8 billion.
  • APEDA concluded the first cohort of its BHARATI accelerator, training 100 startups.
  • DPIIT issued the Transition Facilitation (Quality Control) Order, 2026, easing compliance, and the Department of Fertilizers advanced a Green Urea roadmap.
  • Amit Shah launched Bharat Taxi, India's first cooperative-based, driver-owned taxi service, while Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan launched digital MSME initiatives on International MSME Day.
  • The Railways will roll out a new Wagon Design Policy in July.

Governance and polity

  • Haj Policy 2027 was announced with a 70:30 quota split.
  • The DoT enabled Intra-Circle Roaming in four disaster-hit Arunachal Pradesh districts.
  • The first National Rural Development Conclave (Viksit Gram, Viksit Bharat) was held on 28-29 June, and ICGS Akshay, an indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel, was commissioned.
  • President Murmu conferred the Padma Awards 2026, Neeraj Dangi took oath as a re-elected Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan, NCERT added a section on the 1975 Emergency to a Class 9 textbook for the first time, and Amit Shah chaired the 10th NCORD meeting, releasing the Narcotics Vision Document 2026-2029.

Environment

  • The Centre moved to notify Western Ghats Eco-Sensitive Areas first in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa, covering over 56,000 sq km across six states.
  • NMCG expanded Urban River Management Plans to 13 more Ganga basin cities, and the NBA issued an SOP under Section 38 of the Biological Diversity Act for notifying threatened species.

International

  • Piyush Goyal announced 1,000 advisors to maximise India-UK CETA benefits ahead of its 15 July rollout.
  • India launched Operation Amistad, sending relief and medical teams to earthquake-hit Venezuela, where quakes killed 920.
  • PM Modi made a State Visit to Seychelles, extending a Rs 1,250 crore Line of Credit and becoming the first Indian PM to address its National Assembly.

Science and technology

  • A PIB backgrounder detailed India's mission-mode push in AI, semiconductors and quantum.
  • INCOIS launched a Special El Niño Bulletin, C-DOT signed an MoU with IIT Hyderabad for its fourth Centre of Excellence, and the indigenous Netra AEW&C system received Final Operational Clearance.
  • Digital India marked 11 years, pivoting to AI and chip manufacturing, and India inaugurated the world's first nuclear-heat hydrogen plant at IGCAR Kalpakkam.

Rajasthan

  • The state moved towards a Uniform Civil Code-2026 under a committee led by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, Sanganer received projects worth over Rs 631 crore, a Farmer Registry-based fertiliser distribution pilot began in Rajsamand and Sirohi, and a national workshop marked 18 years of tiger re-introduction at Sariska, now home to 56 tigers.

Rajasthan Launches Farmer Registry-Based Fertilizer Distribution to Curb Black-Marketing

Rajasthan is launching a Farmer Registry-based subsidised fertiliser distribution system from 25 June as a pilot in Rajsamand and Sirohi districts, where farmers will book fertiliser via their Farmer ID and use a 48-hour digital token to collect it from authorised dealers. The aim is to curb black-marketing and ensure subsidies reach genuine farmers.

Neeraj Dangi Takes Oath as Re-elected Rajya Sabha Member from Rajasthan

Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to re-elected member Neeraj Dangi, who represents Rajasthan, at the Parliament House on 22 June 2026. Dangi took the oath in Hindi in the presence of senior dignitaries including Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Kiren Rijiju, J. P. Nadda, Jairam Ramesh and Secretary-General P. C. Modi.

President Confers Padma Awards 2026 at Civil Investiture Ceremony-II

On 23 June 2026, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Padma Awards 2026 (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri) at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in the presence of the Vice-President, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister.

First National Rural Development Conclave to be held on 28-29 June in New Delhi

On Shivraj Singh Chouhan's initiative, the first National Rural Development Conclave on the theme 'Viksit Gram, Viksit Bharat' will be held on 28-29 June at Pusa, New Delhi, bringing together rural development ministers of all states and UTs to review major schemes and frame a shared Centre-State roadmap.

ICGS Akshay Commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard at Goa Shipyard Limited
