Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th edition of World Food India 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on September 25, 2025. The event is organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and serves as the world's largest food processing industry event hosted in India.

This edition saw participation from over 90 countries and featured 1,725 exhibitors showcasing innovations in food processing, food technology, cold chain logistics, packaging, and agri-tech. The event is a platform for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into India's food processing sector, which is among the largest in the world.

A key highlight was the announcement of ₹770 crore in credit linkages under the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme. PMFME, launched under Atmanirbhar Bharat in 2020, supports micro food enterprises with technical upgradation, credit, branding, and marketing assistance.

India's food processing sector accounts for approximately 13% of manufacturing GDP, employs over 74 lakh persons, and receives significant FDI inflows. The government has set an ambitious target of doubling agri-food exports for APEDA-scheduled products to USD 50 billion by 2030. World Food India serves as the centrepiece of this strategy, fostering global partnerships and investment commitments.

For RAS aspirants, this topic covers food security, agricultural value chains, FDI in food processing, and the PMFME scheme — themes of direct relevance under economy and agriculture.
