The Rajasthan High Court at Jaipur took a strict view on 30 April 2026 of the long delay in recruiting sanitation workers in urban local bodies. The Court issued notice to the state government after expressing displeasure that recruitment for 23,820 posts in 309 municipal bodies had not been completed for 14 years. The matter affects thousands of candidates who say the recruitment process was completed but appointments were not issued.

More than 380 petitioners approached the Court seeking appointment on the same basis as candidates in other municipal bodies. The petitioners include candidates from Jaipur Municipal Corporation, Rajgarh, Rajakhera municipality, Beawar and several other areas. Their plea said appointments should be made immediately wherever posts are vacant so that candidates waiting for years can get relief. The Court asked the government to explain the reasons for the delay and state when the process would be completed.

The report also noted partial relief for petitioners from Alwar. According to the petitioners' counsel, appointment orders had been issued on 30 December 2025, but the candidates had to file a petition because appointments were still not given. A document-verification process later began on 9 January 2026, after which the Court allowed the Alwar petitioners to withdraw their plea for the time being, with liberty to return if appointments were not granted. In cases involving Jaipur Municipal Corporation and four other bodies, notices were issued to the Principal Secretary of the Local Self Government Department, the Director of Local Bodies and the concerned commissioners. The Court indicated that accountability would be fixed for pending recruitment and stronger directions could follow if required.
