The 14th edition of the India-Russia joint training exercise INDRA-2025 was held from October 6-15, 2025 at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Bikaner district, Rajasthan. More than 250 servicemen from each side participated. For RAS and UPSC-style preparation, the update matters because it connects international relations, defence cooperation, Rajasthan-specific current affairs, and defence technology in one factual frame.

The INDRA exercise series is part of continuing India-Russia defence cooperation. The series began in 2003 and has alternated between India and Russia. INDRA-2025 should also be remembered as a resumed edition after a pause since 2021, linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In the wider background, India-Russia defence cooperation is guided by the 2021-2031 military-technical cooperation agreement.

The exercise was not merely a ceremonial military contact. Its focus areas included counter-terrorism operations, joint tactical exercises, live-fire training, close-quarter combat in desert conditions, and hostage-rescue simulations. The use of UAV integration for reconnaissance and target acquisition, air support coordination, and artillery synchronisation also makes it relevant for defence technology and military modernisation.

From an exam perspective, it should be studied at three levels. First, prelims can ask direct facts such as place, date, edition, and participation. Second, Rajasthan-specific questions may link the exercise with Bikaner and the Mahajan Field Firing Range. Third, mains answers can use it while discussing India-Russia relations, the role of joint military exercises, and continuity in defence partnership amid a changing geopolitical environment.
