Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled a statue of Thakur Balwant Singh in Bakhasar village, Barmer district, Rajasthan, on December 13, 2025. Thakur Balwant Singh played a crucial role in supporting the Indian Army during the 1971 India-Pakistan War, particularly during the historic Chhachhro Raid in Sindh (Pakistan), where his local knowledge and bravery helped the Indian Army capture Chhachhro. In recognition of his extraordinary contribution, criminal cases against him were withdrawn and he was granted two all-India weapon licenses. Thakur Balwant Singh passed away in 1991. The statue unveiling underscores the role of civilians in supporting India's military operations. The 1971 war led to the creation of Bangladesh and the Shimla Agreement of July 2, 1972, signed between PM Indira Gandhi and Pakistan's President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
