The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on March 6, 2026 granted the Aerodrome License to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) for the Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. YIAPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, and has developed the airport under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. The airport has been licensed under the Public Use category for all-weather operations and features a runway with orientation 10/28 and dimensions of 3,900 metres by 45 metres, supported by an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) system that enables 24x7 operations. In its first phase, with one runway and one terminal, NIA will be capable of handling around 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion of all four development phases, the airport will be able to handle up to 70 million passengers per year, making it one of the largest greenfield airports in the country. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said the license marks a significant milestone for aviation infrastructure in the National Capital Region and will strengthen connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh. The airport still needs approval for its Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) before commercial flights can commence. IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express have already been confirmed as launch carriers, with scheduled operations expected to begin within 45 days of the ASP clearance.
