The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2026 approved the Jaipur Metro Rail Project Phase-2 at an estimated cost of ₹13,037.66 crore. The project comprises a 41-kilometre North-South corridor extending from Prahladpura to Todi Mod with 36 stations, designed to significantly expand urban mobility in the capital of Rajasthan. It will be implemented by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 special purpose vehicle jointly owned by the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan, and is targeted for completion by September 2031. The Phase-2 alignment will provide seamless connectivity to major activity nodes including the Sitapura Industrial Area, Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKIA), Jaipur International Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital and Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar. An underground segment is planned in the airport area, and the new corridor will integrate with the operational Phase-1 through interchange stations and feeder systems so that the city has a unified metro network. The central government and state government will share the viability gap funding along with multilateral loan assistance expected from agencies such as JICA and ADB. Officials said Phase-2 is designed to carry an estimated daily ridership of over 6 lakh commuters by 2031 and will reduce vehicular emissions, ease road congestion on Tonk Road and Sikar Road, and boost real estate along the alignment. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma welcomed the approval and said it would accelerate Jaipurs transformation into a globally competitive smart city.
