REET vs CTET Decider

Comparison tables rarely turn into a decision. This tool converts your domicile, state preference, and central-school openness into a clear recommendation: REET, CTET, or both.

Last updated: April 2026

Quick answer

If you are Rajasthan domicile and want a state government teaching role — REET. If you are outside Rajasthan or open to KVS / NVS / other states — CTET. If you are open to both — take both; CDP and pedagogy overlap make the second test cheap to add.

Frequently asked questions

Is REET valid only inside Rajasthan?

Yes. REET is the eligibility test conducted by RBSE specifically for teacher recruitment in Rajasthan state government schools. It does not extend to KVS, NVS, or other states. CTET is the PAN-India equivalent.

Does CTET need Rajasthan domicile?

No. CTET has no domicile requirement and is open to candidates across India. Rajasthan domicile only matters when you also want REET, which is restricted to Rajasthan residents for the actual recruitment list.

Can I prepare for both REET and CTET together?

Yes, and it is often the right move. Pedagogy and CDP content overlaps substantially. The differences are mostly in regional language papers and the Rajasthan-specific environmental studies content for REET Level 1.

Which one should I prioritise if I am from outside Rajasthan?

CTET, almost always. REET is only useful if you actively plan to acquire Rajasthan domicile or you specifically want to teach in Rajasthan state schools. CTET keeps your options open across the country.
