On 11 May 2026, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced that around 17.5 lakh women in the state have become "Lakhpati Didis" under the centrally sponsored Lakhpati Didi scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development, which aims to raise the annual income of self-help group women to at least Rs 1 lakh. He said economic empowerment of women is a key priority of the state government and that Rajasthan has raised the loan limit under the scheme to Rs 1.5 lakh and reduced the interest rate to 1.5 per cent in order to deepen credit access for women entrepreneurs. The state has linked self-help group women with the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission and Rajeevika, the state rural livelihoods mission, to scale up activities in dairy, handicraft, agro-processing, lac, henna and textiles. The Chief Minister highlighted that revolving funds, community investment funds and bank linkages have helped women diversify income streams beyond agricultural wage work. The Rajasthan announcement aligns with the current national target of six crore Lakhpati Didis by March 2029. Officials said convergence with PM SVANidhi, PM Vishwakarma and PMFME is being pursued to support micro enterprises. The state will also strengthen training, market linkage and digital literacy modules through Rajeevika clusters across all districts to sustain incomes above the one-lakh-rupee threshold.
