The Rajasthan state government presented its Budget 2026-27 with a historic allocation of ₹1,19,408 crore for the agriculture and allied sector, marking a 34% increase over the previous year. This is the highest-ever agricultural budget in the state's history, reflecting the government's commitment to doubling farmer incomes and ensuring rural prosperity across Rajasthan.

A landmark measure in the budget is the provision of interest-free short-term loans worth ₹25,000 crore for 35 lakh farmers. This initiative is designed to reduce the financial burden on small and marginal farmers, enabling them to invest in seeds, fertilisers, and modern agricultural inputs without the pressure of high-interest debt.

To address the chronic drought challenge in Rajasthan, the budget allocates funds for the construction of 600 new tube wells and 1,200 additional hand pumps across water-scarce districts. These measures will provide immediate relief to farming communities facing erratic monsoon patterns and groundwater depletion.

One of the most significant announcements is the Shekhawati Yamuna Water Supply Project, a ₹32,000 crore initiative for which Rajasthan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Haryana. The project aims to channel Yamuna river water to the arid districts of Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu in the Shekhawati region, which have historically suffered from acute water scarcity. This project is expected to transform agricultural productivity in this region by providing reliable irrigation, reducing dependence on depleting groundwater, and enabling farmers to diversify into horticulture and cash crops.

The budget also includes provisions for soil health cards, micro-irrigation subsidies, and digital agriculture platforms to modernise farming practices. Overall, the 2026-27 agriculture budget signals a transformative approach to rural development in Rajasthan.
