Union Jal Shakti Minister Chandrakant Raghunath Paatil on 28 May 2026 inaugurated the new office of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) at West Block II, R K Puram, New Delhi and launched a suite of digital initiatives for dam safety governance in the country. The Minister was joined by Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Secretary V L Kantha Rao, Central Water Commission Chairman Anupam Prasad and NDSA Chairman Anil Jain. Four major initiatives were rolled out. First, the NDSA website (ndsa.gov.in), developed in accordance with the Digital Brand Identity Manual 3.0 guidelines, was launched with a GIS based Specified Dams section providing a map based interface displaying location and features of specified dams across India. Second, the NETRA platform (NDSA Engine for Tracking and Review using AI), an AI enabled conversational platform developed by NDSA in collaboration with the Weapons and Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment (WESEE) of the Indian Navy, was unveiled to allow quick access to information from the Dam Safety Act 2021 regulations and policy guidelines. Third, the DHARMA mobile application (Dam Health and Rehabilitation Monitoring Application) was launched on Android and iOS to improve field level inspection, monitoring and reporting of dam conditions, integrated with NDMA Common Alerting Protocol SACHET for real time alerts. Fourth, the National Register of Specified Dams 2026 was released, listing more than 6600 large dams under the Dam Safety Act 2021. NDSA also operationalised the RRSSD and RBSD digital platforms for Specified Dams Rehabilitation and Risk Based Surveillance. The launches strengthen real time, data driven dam safety governance at the central, state and district levels.
