On October 14, 2025, the UN General Assembly elected India unopposed to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2026–2028 term, marking India's seventh tenure on the body. India received overwhelming support from member states from the Asia-Pacific group, with no competing candidates. India's Permanent Representative P. Harish reaffirmed India's commitment to human rights globally. India had previously served in 2006–07, 2011–14, 2014–17, 2017–20 and 2022–24. Other elected members include UK, Italy, Egypt, Pakistan, South Africa, Vietnam and Chile.
