India leads global coconut production at 30.37%, with cultivation covering 2,165.20 thousand hectares and annual production of 21,373.62 million nuts. The sector supports approximately 30 million people, with about 10 million farmers directly dependent on coconut cultivation. A new ₹350 crore Coconut Promotion Scheme has been announced focusing on replantation of senile palms, introduction of disease-resistant varieties, and productivity enhancement. The scheme also promotes value addition through coconut processing into virgin coconut oil, activated carbon, coconut milk, and coir products to move up the value chain and improve farmer incomes.
