The 2026-27 academic session in Rajasthan's government schools commenced on April 1, 2026, marked by the launch of Praveshotsav 2026 — a large-scale enrolment campaign that aims to bring every child aged 3 to 18 into formal education.

About Praveshotsav 2026

  • Praveshotsav (literally "Admission Festival") is an annual initiative by the Rajasthan Education Department to boost enrolment in government schools at the start of each academic session.
  • The 2026 campaign is the most extensive yet, deploying over 14,000 officers and 4 lakh teachers across the state for door-to-door surveys to identify and enrol out-of-school children.
  • The campaign runs in phases, with targeted outreach to slum areas, tribal communities, and migrant worker families.

Key Features

  • Digital health check-up programme for enrolled students introduced this year.
  • Timely textbook distribution ensured so teaching begins immediately from Day 1.
  • Mega parent-teacher meetings (MPTM) held before session start to build community engagement.
  • Foundation learning activities and special academic programmes for new joiners.
  • Education Minister Madan Dilawar, ACS (Education) Rajesh Yadav, and Director Sitaram Jat personally inspected schools on the opening day.

Class 1 Age Relaxation

A major policy change accompanies this year's Praveshotsav:

  • The minimum age for Class 1 admission has been reduced from 6 years to 5 years, announced on March 31, 2026.
  • This is valid till July 31, 2026, for the 2026-27 admission cycle.
  • Aimed particularly at children from Anganwadi centres, who can now transition to formal schooling without delay.

Background

Rajasthan has been consistently working to improve its Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) and reduce dropout rates, especially in rural and tribal areas. The Praveshotsav campaign is a flagship initiative under the Samagra Shiksha programme, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 goals of universal access to quality education.
