The Rajasthan government established 152 millet outlets through cooperative societies in rural areas, far exceeding its initial target of 34 outlets. The initiative, announced in the 2025-26 State Budget, aims to promote millets as a 'nutritious, affordable, and sustainable alternative to traditional grains' while generating rural employment.

The outlets are operated through the Rajasthan State Cooperative Consumer Federation and District Cooperative Consumer Societies, also featuring products from women's self-help groups. Rajasthan leads all Indian states in millet cultivation area. India produces 38.4% of the world's millets, with major varieties including Bajra, Jowar, and Ragi. The initiative supports India's year-round promotion of millets following the International Year of Millets 2023.
