The Central Wool Development Board organized a Chintan Shivir (brainstorming session) on the Indian Wool Sector at Avikanagar, Rajasthan, on January 16, 2026, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute. The primary objective is to reduce India's heavy dependence on imported fine wool by strengthening the domestic wool value chain.

Key recommendations included establishing Centres of Excellence for wool quality and branding, expanding Common Facility Centres for wool processing, improving technology adoption in sustainable sheep rearing, and creating stronger linkages between farmers, MSMEs, and industry. Rajasthan is India's largest wool-producing state with 1.6 crore kg annually, supporting the livelihoods of lakhs of pastoral communities in western Rajasthan.
