Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan released 184 newly developed crop varieties across 25 crops at the ICAR Leadership Programme held at the NASC Complex, New Delhi on January 4, 2026. The varieties include 122 cereals (60 paddy, 50 maize), 24 cotton, 13 oilseeds, 11 fodder, 6 pulses, 6 sugarcane, and 2 jute & tobacco varieties.

The development involved ICAR institutions (60 varieties), agricultural universities (62), and private sector seed companies (62). All varieties are climate-resilient, high-yielding, biofortified, and resistant to pests and diseases. ICRISAT and ICAR also announced the world's first three-way pearl millet hybrid, developed specifically for dryland conditions prevalent in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
