Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma of Rajasthan transferred ₹717.96 crore directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers under the Rajasthan Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana as the 4th installment in October–November 2025. The Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is a state-level farmer income support scheme that supplements the Central Government's PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi. Under PM-Kisan, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 per year from the Centre; the state scheme provides an additional ₹2,000 per year, taking the total annual benefit to ₹8,000 per farmer family. Rajasthan, with over 6 crore population and agriculture-dominant economy, has approximately 77 lakh registered farmers under PM-Kisan. The scheme is part of the BJP government's 'Kisan Kalyan' agenda following the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections. The DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mechanism ensures transparency and eliminates middlemen. The transfer coincided with the Rabi crop sowing season, providing timely financial support to farmers for inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and irrigation. Rajasthan's agricultural sector, primarily dependent on groundwater irrigation (63% of irrigated land) and the Indira Gandhi Canal system in western districts, faces persistent challenges of water scarcity, climate variability, and soil salinity.
