December 25, 2025 marks Good Governance Day (Sushasan Divas), observed annually on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee (December 25, 1924 – August 16, 2018) to honour his legacy of transparent, accountable, and people-centric administration. The 5th Good Governance Week (Sushasan Saptah) was held from December 19 to 25, 2025, organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. The 2025 theme was 'Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore' (Governance Towards the Village/Administration Towards Villages), aimed at taking governance to the grassroots level. The week was implemented in two phases: a preparatory period (December 11–18) followed by the main observance (December 19–25). Activities included jan samvad (public dialogue) camps, district-level grievance redressal drives, e-governance demonstration sessions in rural areas, and best practice sharing across states. The culmination on December 25 featured district collectors and block-level officers setting up outreach camps in remote villages to deliver government services on-site. The initiative is part of India's broader push for 'Ease of Living' — translating digital governance gains into tangible service delivery improvements for rural citizens. Good Governance Day was first observed in 2014 following the directive of the Union Government to celebrate Vajpayee's birth anniversary as a day promoting good governance values of transparency, accountability, and responsive administration.
