Rajasthan's year 2025 was marked by a series of tragedies, significant legislative developments, and governance challenges. In the legislative domain, the state assembly passed the Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, prescribing punishment of 7 to 14 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than ₹5 lakh for conversion through fraudulent means, coercion, or inducement. The most devastating tragedy of the year was a massive fire in the neuro ICU of Rajasthan's largest public hospital — Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur — killing 6 of 11 patients on critical care support; two more patients evacuated from an adjacent ICU also died subsequently. In a separate disaster, a private sleeper bus caught fire in Jaisalmer barely 10 minutes after starting its journey to Jodhpur, killing at least 20 people on the spot; the eventual death toll rose to 29 — the worst road fire disaster in Rajasthan's recent history. Man-animal conflict was a recurring concern in 2025: at least three people including a forest ranger were killed in tiger attacks in Rajasthan, and multiple incidents of leopards straying into residential colonies in Jaipur and other cities raised urgent questions about wildlife habitat, corridor management, and co-existence policies. The government launched various governance initiatives through the year, including the e-Swasthya Samvad platform and the Rajasthan Tourism Policy 2025, amid these challenges.
