On April 7, 2026 the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued an official communication announcing that Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla would inaugurate the First Conference of Zone VII of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region at Panaji, Goa, with the three-day event scheduled at Miramar from April 8 to 10, 2026. Hosted by the Goa Legislative Assembly, the conference is the first ever Zone VII gathering bringing together legislatures of Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat — the western India bloc — to deepen parliamentary cooperation. Distinguished participants include Speaker Om Birla, Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Rahul Narwekar, Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde and Goa's Minister for Legislative Affairs Mauvin Godinho. The agenda focuses on strengthening parliamentary procedures, exchange of best practices, productivity of legislatures, role of committees, and developmental priorities of the western region. The CPA, founded in 1911 and headquartered in London, brings together Commonwealth parliamentarians for the promotion of democracy, good governance and rule of law. The India Region of CPA, with its zonal structure, fosters interaction between the Indian Parliament and state legislatures. Goa's hosting underscores its growing role in inter-legislature diplomacy and reflects its status as a smaller state showcasing parliamentary capacity.
