Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai chaired a high-level review meeting on Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) 2.0 with all District Collectors of Chhattisgarh on February 20, 2026. The meeting, organised by the National Water Mission with the Government of Chhattisgarh, reviewed district-level progress and community-led water conservation initiatives.
Chhattisgarh had secured the second position nationally during JSJB 1.0 by creating more than four lakh recharge structures. Under JSJB 2.0, the state reported over 88,000 completed works and more than 42,000 ongoing works, reflecting sustained momentum across districts.
The review highlighted low-cost groundwater recharge models, convergence of schemes, and local participation. The Union Minister urged districts to create adequate rainwater recharge capacity before the monsoon, use earmarked MGNREGA funds effectively, focus on critical and semi-critical districts, upload data regularly on the JSJB portal, and strengthen convergence with community and CSR participation.
Mission Amrit Sarovar remains a related national water-conservation initiative: PIB states that its objective is construction or rejuvenation of at least 75 Amrit Sarovar ponds in every district of the country.
