Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 27, 2026, chaired a virtual meeting with chief ministers and lieutenant governors to review India's preparedness as the West Asia conflict between Iran and US-Israel forces completes one month. The PM emphasised the need for vigilance, preparedness, and coordinated action at every stage.

Drawing parallels with India's unified response during the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi called for a similar Centre-state 'Team India' approach to address the crisis. The meeting saw state-wise inputs from CMs on local preparedness, especially regarding fuel and energy supplies.

Notably, CMs of poll-bound states — Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan, West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu's MK Stalin, Assam's Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Puducherry's N Rangasamy — were absent due to the Model Code of Conduct being in force.

The meeting coincided with the government's announcement of a ₹10 per litre excise duty cut on petrol and diesel, signalling the Centre's proactive approach to mitigating the economic fallout of the geopolitical turmoil.
