India observed National Education Day on November 11, 2025, to commemorate the 137th birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (born November 11, 1888) — India's first Education Minister (1947–1958) and an architect of the modern Indian education system. The Government of India had officially declared November 11 as National Education Day in September 2008 to honour his legacy. The theme for National Education Day 2025 was 'AI and Education — Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation', reflecting contemporary concerns about artificial intelligence transforming the educational landscape. Azad championed universal primary education, adult literacy, women's education, and the diversification of secondary and vocational training. He was instrumental in establishing foundational institutions including the University Grants Commission (UGC), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Azad was a polymath — theologian, scholar, journalist, and freedom fighter — who was the youngest president of the Indian National Congress at 35. His educational philosophy emphasised scientific temper, secularism, and national integration. Schools and universities across the country, including those in Rajasthan, marked the day with seminars, essay competitions, elocution contests, and workshops reaffirming the importance of literacy and inclusive education.
