Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with the President of Iran, His Excellency Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, on developments in West Asia. According to the Press Information Bureau (release dated 30 June 2026), President Pezeshkian apprised the Prime Minister of the recent developments in West Asia and the prospects going forward.

During the conversation, the Prime Minister welcomed the understanding that had been reached and reiterated India's principled position that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. This restatement of India's long-standing approach underlined New Delhi's preference for peaceful, negotiated solutions to regional disputes rather than escalation or the use of force.

The Prime Minister further emphasised the need for sustained efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region. He also stressed the importance of safeguarding the freedom of maritime navigation and commerce, as well as the freedom of economic activities, in West Asia, a region of considerable strategic and economic significance for India.

The telephone conversation reflects the continuing engagement between India and Iran at the highest political level and India's active diplomatic role in promoting de-escalation in West Asia. By welcoming the understanding reached and calling for continued efforts towards durable peace, India signalled its support for a diplomacy-led resolution of tensions and its commitment to regional stability and the security of maritime routes vital to global trade.
