Union Minister of Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on 7 May 2026 launched a nationwide free Annual Health Check-Up Initiative for workers aged 40 years and above, formally inaugurating the programme from the Employees State Insurance Corporation Medical College and Hospital, Basaidarapur, New Delhi. Simultaneous launch events were held at 11 other ESIC hospitals across India, attended by labour ministers, members of Parliament, members of Legislative Assemblies and other dignitaries. The initiative operationalises a key provision of the four new Labour Codes which consolidate 29 central labour laws, and makes annual health check-ups a statutory entitlement for workers aged 40 and above. ESIC-insured beneficiaries will avail screenings, follow-up treatment and medicines free of cost at designated ESIC facilities. For workers engaged in hazardous or dangerous operations, including handling of chemicals, toxic substances or heavy machinery, medical check-ups are mandatory irrespective of age. The Minister said the rollout reflects the Shramev Jayate framework and dignity of labour, and announced that West Bengal workers will come under ESIC coverage following the Labour Codes rollout. The programme aims at early diagnosis, preventive healthcare and continuous health monitoring, and is expected to reduce out-of-pocket health expenditure for India's organised sector workforce while strengthening occupational safety and social security.
