The 20th G20 Leaders' Summit was held on November 22–23, 2025, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, South Africa — marking the first-ever G20 summit hosted on the African continent, under South Africa's presidency with the theme 'Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in his 12th G20 summit. On the opening day (November 22), PM Modi proposed six new global development initiatives: (1) Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, (2) Africa Skills Multiplier Program, (3) Global Healthcare Response Team, (4) Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus, (5) Open Satellite Data Partnership, and (6) Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative. The G20 summit approved a 25th IMF Executive Board seat for Sub-Saharan Africa, launched Mission 300 to provide electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030, adopted a Critical Minerals Framework, reaffirmed commitment to Paris Agreement and 1.5°C goal, and launched the AI for Africa Initiative. PM Modi also attended the IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) Leaders' Meeting, proposing an IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance to share Digital Public Infrastructure including UPI, and an IBSA Fund for Climate-Resilient Agriculture. He met Brazilian President Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines.
