India Energy Week (IEW) 2026, held from January 27-30 in Goa, marked several landmark developments in India's multi-fuel energy transition. A dedicated Hydrogen Zone, hosted by Oil India Limited (OIL), was inaugurated by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, underscoring India's accelerating push into green hydrogen as a clean energy carrier. The zone showcased cutting-edge electrolysers, fuel cell technologies, and hydrogen storage systems.

A significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and TotalEnergies for establishing a 200 Kilo Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production plant. This is one of the largest SAF commitments in India and supports decarbonisation of the aviation sector. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas launched a dedicated SAF microsite to disseminate information on India's SAF policy roadmap.

In another major development, BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited) concluded a crude term deal with Petrobras of Brazil, diversifying India's crude oil sourcing basket and enhancing energy security. The India Bioenergy Outlook 2030, a joint publication by IEA (International Energy Agency) and PPAC (Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell), was released at the event, charting India's bioenergy growth trajectory.

Under the Compressed Biogas (CBG) Blending Obligation, blending becomes mandatory from FY 2025-26 and reaches 5% of total CNG/PNG consumption from FY 2028-29 onwards, alongside the SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) scheme. IEW 2026 brought together over 700 exhibitors, 75,000 attendees, and participation from 120 countries, making it Asia's premier energy event. India's approach of embracing multiple fuel pathways — hydrogen, biofuels, SAF, natural gas — reflects its pragmatic multi-fuel energy transition strategy rather than dependence on a single technology.
