As part of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh 2025, nationwide celebrations were underway from November 1–15 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda (1875–1900), the legendary tribal freedom fighter, social reformer, and spiritual leader from the Munda community of present-day Jharkhand, revered as Dharti Aaba (Father of the Earth). November 15 is officially observed as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas across India. A fortnight-long Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada (November 1–15) included cultural events, exhibitions, and community programmes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national commemorations from Gujarat's Narmada district, unveiling projects worth over ₹9,700 crore for tribal welfare. Birsa Munda's Ulgulan (the Great Tumult) uprising against British colonial rule is considered one of the earliest and most significant tribal revolts in Indian history. The celebrations reinforce government commitment to tribal rights and the contributions of Adivasi communities to India's freedom struggle and cultural heritage.
