The Rajasthan government, under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has been advancing rural self-reliance through the Gram Vikas Yatra, an outreach campaign in which the Chief Minister and public representatives engage directly with villagers across the state. Under the campaign, current and former Members of the Legislative Assembly, Members of Parliament, and party workers visit every village to understand local challenges first-hand. The purpose of these visits is to identify grassroots problems and enhance economic support for farmers, livestock rearers, women, and labourers. During visits to villages such as Bambori in Pratapgarh district, the Chief Minister held discussions with elders, youth, and women as part of the ongoing initiative. The campaign places strong emphasis on strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions, with the Chief Minister underscoring that village empowerment is pivotal to overall state development and describing sarpanches as the voice of villages. The state government is reorganising Panchayati Raj institutions to enhance transparency and accountability at the grassroots. The Gram Vikas Yatra also serves as a precursor to the Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet, GRAM 2026, scheduled in Jaipur, with the Chief Minister highlighting upcoming efforts to boost agro-processing, dairy development, and cooperative sector-based rural infrastructure. The government plans to deploy awareness chariots at the Gram Panchayat level to disseminate information about government schemes and collect feedback from farmers. The campaign aims to empower farmers and improve incomes across crops such as fruits, vegetables, grains, pulses, and oilseeds, reinforcing the goal of rural self-reliance.
