The Indian Army announced the establishment of its cutting-edge drone warfare unit named 'Bhairav Force', designed for modern combat operations specialising in offensive drone strikes and real-time surveillance. The Bhairav Battalion is positioned between the Para Special Forces and regular infantry units to meet modern warfare requirements, especially in view of drone-intensive warfare.

The unit's first public demonstration was scheduled for the Indian Army Day Parade 2026 in Jaipur on January 15. Based on lessons learnt from Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army has set plans to procure 850 kamikaze drones for use by all three armed forces. The Bhairav Force will operate next-generation systems including Switch UAV, Sanjay, Pralay and Baaz armed drones, besides Prabal C-UAS (counter-drone) systems.
