The Indian Navy launched NGOPV Shachi (Yard 1280), the latest Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel, marking a significant milestone in India''s indigenous naval shipbuilding capability. The vessel was launched at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) as part of India''s expanding maritime defence infrastructure.

The NGOPV class is designed for extended surveillance and patrol missions in India''s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which spans over 2 million square kilometers. Shachi features enhanced sensors, modern weapons systems, improved endurance capabilities, and advanced communication systems. The vessel is designed to perform multiple roles including coastal and offshore patrol, anti-piracy operations, search and rescue, and humanitarian assistance.

The launch aligns with the Indian Navy''s push for self-reliance under Atmanirbhar Bharat and strengthens India''s position as a net security provider in the Indian Ocean Region. The NGOPV program reflects India''s growing capacity for indigenous naval vessel design and construction.
