On December 26, 2025, India observed Veer Bal Diwas — a national day instituted to commemorate the martyrdom of the four sons (Sahibzade) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji — with two concurrent events in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) 2025 on 20 exceptional children selected from 18 States and Union Territories at a ceremony in Vigyan Bhawan. The awardees were recognised across six categories: Bravery, Art & Culture, Environment, Social Service, Science & Technology, and Sports. Each recipient received a medal, a certificate, and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh. At a separate national-level Veer Bal Diwas programme at Bharat Mandapam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed thousands of children and youth, emphasising the legacy of courage, sacrifice, and seva demonstrated by the Sahibzade. The PMRBP was instituted in 1996 (earlier called the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement and Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award); it was renamed and restructured by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Veer Bal Diwas was first declared on December 26, 2022 by PM Modi to honour the Chaar Sahibzade — Baba Ajit Singh, Baba Jujhar Singh, Baba Zorawar Singh, and Baba Fateh Singh — who attained martyrdom resisting the Mughal empire's demand to abandon their faith. The Diwas underscores values of courage, conviction, and national pride that the government seeks to instil in India's youth.
