In a significant boost to Rajasthan's urban tourism and beautification efforts, the state government inaugurated a grand floating fountain at Kaylana Lake in Jodhpur on October 20, 2025. The fountain has been described as the state's largest floating fountain, making Kaylana Lake a marquee destination for both local residents and tourists visiting the Blue City.
Kaylana Lake has a historic legacy dating to 1872 when it was built by Maharaja Pratap Singh of Jodhpur. The lake, situated on the western outskirts of the city, is an artificial reservoir that has served as a vital water source for Jodhpur for over 150 years. Its scenic surroundings and bird-rich wetland ecosystem make it a natural focal point for eco-tourism and urban recreation.
The floating fountain adds a new dimension to the lake, featuring illuminated water jets that put on a spectacular visual display, particularly during evening hours. The project is part of the Rajasthan government's broader initiative to develop tourist infrastructure in Tier-2 cities and enhance the quality of urban public spaces.
The DIPR Rajasthan noted that the floating fountain is expected to attract thousands of visitors daily and serve as a catalyst for the local hospitality and tourism economy. The inauguration was part of ongoing efforts to position Jodhpur — already famous for Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and the vibrant blue heritage neighbourhood — as a comprehensive tourism destination beyond its historical landmarks.
The project aligns with Rajasthan's Paryatan (Tourism) Vision 2030, which targets doubling tourist footfall and tourism revenue by enhancing both heritage and modern lifestyle attractions across the state.
